Newgrange Dreaming

Newgrange Dreaming (2026) is a 24" x 48" (60.96 cm x 121.92 cm) oil painting depicting geometric patterns and planets rising above the massive monument. The mound is reflected in a dark expanse. While water does not closely border Newgrange today, 5,000 years ago there could have been ancient waterways. The reflection additionally suggests the Hermetic axiom “as above so below”. Stone Age builders, carvers, and dreamers who created Newgrange possessed a deep reverence for cosmic movements, which undoubtedly shaped their sense of self. Perhaps the beauty and order of the cosmos gave them pride, identity, and a sense of significance. This painting seeks to visually bridge those realms, showing cosmic order reaching down to the earthly plane and connecting humanity to a vast universe. Alternatively, it represents humans connecting to the cosmos or spirit world via the shaft of light streaming into the inner chamber during the Winter Solstice. It seems that through monument building and sacred ritual people were acknowledging and participating in the renewal of the seasons and the cycles of life. I work both intuitively and rationally to create art that suggests higher realms of reality and attempts to elevates the viewer's spirit. Away from the city lights standing under the night sky continues to fill us with awe. By renewing our appreciation for the cosmos and cycle of life, we can restore our admiration for the universe—and, in turn, revive our own sense of pride, identity, and purpose.
